Year 6 SATS
It was a pleasure to see our children tackle the challenge of SATS with positivity, determination and super attitudes every day. Phased by nothing! Taking responsibility and grasping every opportunity! Seeing their intelligent thinking, their skill and their knowledge throughout each test was an pleasure to see.
Thanks to every year six child for their ‘amazingness’ last week!
Results from SATS are made available to school in early July.

Sensory Nook
This is due to be delivered and installed into our garden room next week with our grand opening planned for after half term.
Improving our environment…
Keen gardener? We are looking for a few willing volunteers from our community who may be able to spare an hour or two a week to help us to look after our planters and gardens. Please contact Mr Hopper (Headteacher) if you are interested in helping in any way.
Community Responsibility – Be Safe Online – Don’t be unkind!
We want to make you aware that we have received reports of unkind and potentially bullying behaviour taking place among some children on WhatsApp, particularly in Years 5 and 6.
We are asking for your full support in addressing this. Please take time to check your child’s phone and review their group chats and messages. These conversations can sometimes include inappropriate language, exclusion, or unkind comments that children may not realise are hurtful.
By working together, we can help ensure all children feel safe and respected—both in school and online.
Is WhatsApp safe for children?
Meta requires users in the UK to be 13 or older to use the app. This lowered from 16 in 2024.
This reduced age requirement allows more young people to use the platform. Additionally, children under this age still use WhatsApp to connect and communicate with friends, family and communities. While this can benefit children’s wellbeing, parents must take actions to make sure their accounts are safe at any age. Risks include inappropriate content or contact from strangers.
Thank you for your support.
Attendance News
The past few weeks has seen a bit of a fall in our attendance figures, albeit for a wide variety of reasons.
One area of school which is not improving as fast as we would like is the attendance of our children.
We are still below National Average for primary school attendance and if there is one thing we don’t like – it is being below average in anything and I know as parents and carers you feel the same.
Our community is amazing and our school attendance needs to reflect this.
Please help us to get our community back up there by ensuring your child has amazing attendance between now and the end of the year.
Girls’ Cricket Competition 8/5/25
On Thursday afternoon two teams of year 6 girls headed out to Snainton Cricket Ground to participate in a local schools’ girls’ cricket tournament. We played against teams from Cayton, Gladstone Road and East Ayton.
It was a cold, cloudy afternoon, but we didn’t let the grey weather affect our spirits! The girls were very excited and couldn’t wait to play their first ever matches. They played really well and improved dramatically over the course of the afternoon. A lot was at stake for our girls – the winning team was to be invited to the county finals in Harrogate. Our two teams, the Northstead Ducks and the Northstead Simbas, fought hard to be in with a chance to gain the coveted invitation to the county finals. In the deciding match between the Northstead Ducks and Gladstone Road, the Ducks were winning, but sadly a couple of late wickets meant that we were knocked out in the final over. It was particularly impressive as this was only the 4th time many of the girls had played, and for almost allof them, their very first matches. It was a most exciting afternoon of cricket, and we can’t wait until the next tournament in June.
“Yesterday was great because there was a lot of space to play and we all got a turn at everything. I really liked bowling and I even managed to hit two sixes! And now I just really like cricket.”

“It was very, very fun. I enjoyed having some competition and I can’t wait to play again.”
