Our end of half term newsletter was sent to our community yesterday and included many valuable and important information items.
It may have been the shortest half term of the year but we have crammed an awful lot into it! KS2 SATS have been and gone for another year, many trips out of school including our year five trips to Stepney Hill Farm and Scarborough Castle.
After half term, there are many, many school events taking place. Sports days, Wykeham Lakes for KS2, Speedkix for EYFS and KS1, Beach visits, Y6 leavers assembly and disco, our inaugural colour run, transition days, new starter events, as well as our performances of Adventures in Wonderland. It promises to be a busy, busy time for the whole school! (Forgot to mention that the children will also complete end of year assessments).
Recruitment to teaching positions
You may have noted from our end of half term newsletter that a number of teaching staff are retiring or moving on at the end of the academic year.
This past week, we have completed a selection process to appoint teachers to our team for September 2025. Once all paperwork is finalised, we will share the outcome of the recruitment process with our community.
We currently have recruitment adverts in our vacancies section. We are looking to appoint an Office Manager for September 2025 and cleaners to start as soon as possible. Please see the vacancies section of the website here…

Y3 Stay and Sew
What a turnout for our ‘Stay and Sew’ with Y3. Thank you to all of our community who turned up to assist their children in completing their sewing of their pencil cases (part of our DT curriculum). Your time and energy to support this event was phenomenal. Thank you!
Phenomenal Writing!!!!
Since being appointed as Headteacher in September 2022, one aspect of school we have worked tirelessly on is the development of writing from EYFS through to Year 6. Outcomes in writing are improving year on year thanks to excellent teaching (and support at home) and so when a group of year one children (yes – this is year one writing) came to visit me today to showcase their work, I have to admit it nearly brought a tear to my eye to see such talented writers at such a young age. I’m sure you will agree that it is amazing! So proud of them!
Boy’s Cricket Qualifiers 22.5.25 (Thanks to Mrs Barker and Mrs Ellwood)
On Thursday, Northstead sent two eager cricket teams to the Boy’s Cricket Qualifiers held at Scarborough Cricket Ground.
The Northstead Jacks, made up of year 6 boys, played in group 1 and competed against St Peters, East Ayton and Gladstone Road. Our boys beat both East Ayton and Gladstone Road, but were narrowly defeated by St Peters. Fortunately for us, we were the champions of group 1 because we had a phenomenal number of runs.
The Northstead Toms, made up of year 6 boys and 2 year 5s, were equally successful. In Group two, we were up against Lindhead, Cayton, Newby Scalby and Friarage. Although we won 3 matches, we lost against the experienced Lindhead team. Sadly, we did not win the group stage, and Lindhead go on to play against the Northstead Jacks in a final match to be held on the 10th of June. The winners of the final will be invited to play in the county finals which will be held in Harrogate on the 18th of June.
There was some excellent cricket played by our boys, from both the experienced players and those new to cricket. Well-done boys, you’ve really excelled yourselves and we are very proud of you!
